Going to rebuild the trans in the Impala SS. Apparently, the 3-4 accumulator housing is scored due to a broken spring, and is leaking. I found a kit from Sonnax which seems like a good product. Also, there's about 106k on the clock, and the wear is evident on all parts. Also, this all came about due to first gear revving out, and no second. It would just go into third. So, time for a rebuild.
Are there any kits you would recommend? https://www.700r4l60e.com seems like a good site for various parts, kits, etc. But, i'm not exactly sure what I should be looking for. Are shift kits recommended? I hear they shorten the life of the trans. Is that true?

Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.
The sonnax sleeve is a permanent solution to the problem. Use it with 100% confidence.
Dana, at Probuilt is a good guy. I would trust his advice and products 100%. He has helped me quite a bit over the years. He is a true pro with alot of experience.
Shift kits are very, very opinional. Although I like the transgo products, there are a few things in the kit that I personally do not like.
I use them anyway, and adjust my install to suit my preference.
In my opinion, a shift kit does NOT shorten the trans life. Strictly my opinion though.
Keep your build simple. If not supercharged or nitroused, and it makes less than 500 hp, stick with the basic rebuild stuff and add a beast and a z-pack. If buying from Dana, follow his recipe
also, as far as a Trans go kit goes, how many washers do you use in your builds? I have read the number of washers determines how harsh the shift...full throttle or 1/3, etc.

I have no experience with vacuum modulator conversions. The 4l60e does not have one from the factory, so I do not convert them.
The washers are used in a few different spots. In the servo, they are used to set pin length. I use no washers, but custom fit eah and every pin to the band/case/drum combo.
I also use no spacers under the accumulator springs. I use different tension springs to set the shift qualities where I wish them to be.
