I had been running into vats issues. I do have a PCM for less chip but the settings on it aren't right for what I have and I don't want to risk it. So I thought of doing the work around on ebay with the resister when I realized I don't know my key code. So as I'm looking at my key that looks like it's origional I think to myself well maybe the key is just worn out. So I went to the dealer. They scanned my code then got me a new key and cut it for me for 35. I know expensive key but since I have not had a single problem with the vette on start up and I am very pleased. Just in case you guys were having the same problem you may just want to get yourself a new key to fix it or to prevent this problem in the future.
It's rarely the key though. And once the dealer makes you the new key, they won't/can't take it back if it don't fix the problem.
Also, you and the dealer have no way of knowing if anyone before you had ever switched out the ignition cylinder. This would make the key the dealer might have on record useless. Happened to me. There is a cut off year where dealers just don't carry that info anymore anyway.
To know for sure, you ought to test the keys back to back. The report back with your findings.
