My driver side widow just decided to go goofy on me the other day kind of came up crooked and then made a clicking noise have taken door panel off got window to come up fairly straight but stops about 1" from top seal and then the motor makes that horrible clicking noise like its grinding gears or something. I have done a search but could not find anything on the noise have any of you gone though this and if so please what is the fix before i slam my head in the door
So the motor is still working but the window isnt going up? It could be the white plastic strip with teeth that pulls the window up. What year is yours?
sorry I didn't get back right away, got up this morning and tore the inside panel off the door looks like the little white gear strip is in pieces It's an 85 with 92,000 miles runs good but lots of little things to tinker with
Thanks

Sounds like your window ribbon is shot. I just replaced both of mine last week. You can get a new one at ecklers or i found one at auto zone. its made for chrysler cars but its the same design, all you have to do is cut it to length. make sure you grease up the tracks really good, that will make it travel faster
hey, my passenger side window does that, sorta.. basically, on the back side, when i roll it up all the way it comes about an inch short, but it doesnt make any clicking noise or anything.. its just like its up all the way (which it basically is in front).. i figured there was just a pair of screws i could loosen on the bottom, below the glass, to raise it up all the way. i can actually pull/push the window up/down as it sits. input?

If you can lift the window by hand or it's skipping at the top of its travel then your ribbon is broken and too short to ever get the window up fully.
You could replace the ribbon but still have slow windows or upgrade to the 87+ regulators. It's almost a bolt-on. I opened my door to replace a broken ribbon, and it had already been replaced previously, and broke again. I figured I didn't want to be the one replacing it a 3rd time.
