Hyper tech shows a stage I and stage II performance chip in the Ecklers catalog. Has anyone with a 84 tried one and was there any noticable difference in performance?
I have an '84 that I race weekly. I tried the stage II chip with a 160 thermostat. The only positive effect was the torque converter lock-up management. My ETs actually INCREASED. My car slowed down by almost a tenth. I sent it back. Just my experience. I hope you (and others) have better luck.
the chips are really useless..theres no change in spark or fuel curves, the just manage the tcc lockup and fans, the ads super chip does add more power, but its discontinued. I have the image of it, and if you know some one who can burn you a chip i can send it your way..the best thing really is to change the ecm to a 7747, then you can tune your own chips..ive seen hp gains of 40+ on the dyno just from tuning mildly modded engines
ADS chip is NOT discontinued. I just bought one last month, but you have to ask for it. It is not advertised on their web page. Ask for 8407A if you have a cat, 8407B if no cat (8407B will clog cat if you have one). Cost is $79.
Besides the TCC lockup problem, I have better SOTP acceleration. I can't compare track times because of the weather, but I picked up 1/2 sec between July and October. I don't know how much of it was all due to the cool weather, the chip, the B&M shift kit, or my new launching method.
BTW - The chip has nothing to do with the fans on an '84. Only controlled by the temp sensor and the AC compressor.
