Default battery power source for e/water pump ?

hi guys,
im still persisting at installing my csr electric water pump on my L98 engine 91 vette!
can some one please advise me and tell me if i am able to get battery power source from alternator red wire to the relay ??

is it safe and ok to use this method please ??

this would be a ideal location /close by thats all rather than removing battery/side fender and getting power from junction box.

other wires will be ok to figure out,
blue wire with inline 15 amp fuse from pump to relay,
then switched 12 volt wire from relay i beleive to thin pink wire on standard fan relays, then ground black negative wire from relay to steel clean surface on cross frame in front of motor.

does this all sound ok please ?
cheers

I installed mine behind the battery so it would have a good connection.
Take the time and do it right that is your engines life blood
I also installed a light so I would know if the power failed.

Should really have the fuse before the relay for protection .
You can use the wire (pink / black ?) that went to the EGR solenoid or the air valve you removed with the air pump as a relay switch.
Both are hot in run and start.

I ran a fused line back to the fuse block behind the battery.

On my '95, there's a hot side you can tap into just by taking the cover off the screw.

The red wire on the alternator is hot all the time (and has its own fusible link) and I don't see anything wrong with getting 12v from there, but you should always connect the fuse directly and with a short wire to the 12v source, not after the relay!

hi there guys,
thanks all for your help and replies.
firstly i have a 15 amp inline fuse for the water pump blue thick wire and is before the relay, then i have found the egr /air pump delete pink/black wire so i will hook up switched thin blue wire to that,
if i do fit power source wire from alternator i will also fit a inline fuse there also ??
with this painless wiring kit there is a circuit braker also comes with it.
what does a circuit breaker do please ??
is it needed at all ??
painless wiring diagram are saying one red power source wire to switch, another red wire from power battery source to circuit breaker !!
so can i run a power source wire like painless say to egr/air pump plug like RODJ said then ?
im confused now guys!!!!
cheers

The circuit breaker is a device that turns off the current to a circuit when the current reaches its rating. It is essentially a resetable fuse.
Whenever you add a circuit to your car, you should always do so with a fuse or circuit breaker connected to the source first!!!!!! In case of a short circuit or in case of a wreck, you do not want a pinched wire with no fuse because that wire will turn red hot and set gasoline on fire.
I do not have a 91 circuit diagram and cannot advise you on the other connection recommendations.

"painless wiring diagram are saying one red power source wire to switch, another red wire from power battery source to circuit breaker !!"

Colors on Painless diagram means nothing.

The relay has 4 contacts; 2 sets of 2
One pair are the switched contacts;power from battery
through relay to fan

the other are the "switching contacts : switched power (to activate relay) and earth for switch wire

Most relays have a little pic on them showing relevent connections.
