Default Engine coolant temperature display reading low all the time

Hello everyone, I am puzzeled about the temp. display allways reading Low. The oil temp reads between 180 and 200. I changed the coolannt temp. sensor and inspected the wiring. Still no reading on the dash display even though the rest of the displays are operating normaly. Has anyone ever had the same problem? Any ideas for a solution.

What temp thermostat are you using? Mine was stuck open and my temps were lower than that about 150 or so. After installing a 180 thermostat it runs in the 175 -180 range.

Temp sensor for the digi-dash is on the passenger side, I believe between #6 and #8 - just above the starter. I believe an open circuit will cause it to always read low (as if disconnected).

On the 86, it's located on the passenger side cylinder head NOT the driver's side head. If you have it installed on the wrong head your gauge won't work properly.

The driver's side location is for the fan. Haynes manual has it backwards and has caused a lot of guys problems, including me.

Between 6 and 8 not 6 and 7.
