Default Need help in finding a relay....

Where is the horn relay located? In the Helms, it says its located in the "bottom RH side of I/P in relay retainer" under electrical diagnosis, 8a-40-3.

Horns don't work..no codes, checked fuse and checked wires.

1996 A4. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Remove the hush panel from under the passenger side of the dash. Up above the metal cross frame, there is a bracket that holds 5 relays. The horn relay is the second from the left as you sit in the passenger seat (actually the middle one of a group of three).

Hi --

I've owned my '94 for about a week so am a newbie at this. I have FSM volume 2 in hand and volume 1 is on the way. I'm also trying to correct a non-functioning horn and am at the same point on the diagnostic chart as Runner140. Unfortunately, I need to get the horn working NOW so I can pass the safety inspection.

What is the hush panel and how do I remove it? Thanks in advance.

Pete

The "hush panel" is the almost square piece of carpeted plastic that is above the footwell. The small interior footwell light is on the panel.

There is one screw at the front of the panel and two or three where it attaches to the lower part of the dash. Be careful when removing the wire connector for the interior lamp, the plastic tangs on the connector are easily breakable.

The car is a '94 and I don't see any carpeting above the passenger's feet at all. The lower dash there appears to be one piece -- and no obvious way to remove it. See picture:
