Default noticed a slight tranny shudder. 86 auto.

this happens consistently when i step on the gas in 3rd gear bring it to a quick 45, 50 mph and then throw it into 4th(od). there is a slight hesitation vibration or shudder before it smooths into od. whats going on here? may there be a remedy. this is a rebuilt tranny with about 2k on it. just started doing this. thanks.

Is it when it tries to go into OD or when TCC is trying to engage?

My 89 with auto does this. I'll be driving in OD, and when I'm going 70-80mph and hit the gas, I get a vibration from the engine briefly. I drove around in D and it didn't do it.

I was told it was something to do with the gears going in overdrive and the engine's RPM's struggle to catch up, or something like that.

I'd take it back to the Tranny builder and see what they say (unless you did it yourself...), that way if it gets worse down the road, they can't blame it on your not bringing it in at the first sign of trouble. I "think" you might be able to unplug the wires to the tranny that control Converter Lock up and see if the shudder changes any, but I would talk to someone morw knowledgable about 700's than me before trying this.

still have the shudder, vibration. anyone have a clue? the car performs flawlessly other than that shift point. all ather gears are solid and smooth, just when going from 3rd to 4th.

Sounds like it might be a chattering lock-up clutch. You may need a new torque converter.
