Any one know if the peice that connects the pickup to the fuel pump, most i've seen have a tube that connects them my 88 has a surge or purge valve. Can I remove it and replace it with a peice of lets say high pressure hose like on an Iroc? I belive its leaking at the ends, where the tubing from the pickup goes in and where the pump attaches. I cant find it separate i can buy the whole pickup which convieniently has this surge purge coupling thingy... Help, im getting antsy.. I have less then a month before the deep freeze here up north. upstate NY. Thanks Chuck

Doesn't your car's prop rod have a little spring loaded lock button? And if so, how tight is the spring tension on that button? Mine's pretty hard to push in, it's never fallen on me.

That's what it should do. If you haven't tried this, disconnect the MAF and see if it starts.

I bought an older laptop off ebay, bought the cable from Moates and downloaded Tunerpro RT also, free. Good program.
Not meaning to hy-jack, but: I have a Diacom cable but not the software for my 96. Will RT interface and run off that cable?

Thanks,

Jake

suncr thanks. Disconnect MAF, no start. waited 10 minutes just in cas the computer had to get out of that no start thing. And no start.. Ok how bout this, bin around chevys all my life, why do the injectors that came in today say ford on them? im sure they fit but whats the differnce.. I hear talk about these yellow tops, some good, some bad. spray them good before putting them in and cross your fingers. A little motorcycle trick, clean the injectors good, Then PUT THEM IN THE FREEZER.....in a bag. The freezer shrinks the rubber O rings thus making it easier to install.. lube them up, with oil, and try not to touch the O rings as to not heat them up. Sounds crazy, i do it on motorcycles, not with injectors but we will see on saturday. thanks for all your help, Chuck

Ford injectors are just that - manufactured by Ford. Seen as an inexpensive solution to the pricey OEM's, I've never heard anything bad about them.

I've never had a problem installing injectors as long as the O-rings were lubed. I've used anything from Machine Oil to 30 wt - just depends on what I can find buried on my bench.

Scorpian5150, thanks for checking! Answer is, I dont know! I got my air pump today from fellow forum member Jesup (much thanks) and put it on after work. drove around a bit with no issues. I did put the new coil in as well as cap and rotor. So now I just have to wait and see! Sometimes the car would go a week with no issues so now its a waiting game.

And no, no spring holding the hood thing. Guess that explains it! I thought I might have had a new product idea but seems more like Im missing something!

Will post more as I drive around with my spark plug attachment toshow spark and my fuel pressure gauge!

Several years ago on my86, I removed it and replaced it with a piece of fuel hose and a couple of screw clamps.

Someone once posted it's there to lessen fuel pump noise.

No fuel injector filter, per se. There's a single fuel filter mounted to the frame, passenger side near the tire. There's a fuel filter/sock mounted to the very bottom of the fuel pump.

Hey tech guys, you,ve on so far. OK, brief synopsis. 88 64,000, been siting i think 10 years in garage. Car started only on ether. had voltage at injectors, and pulse, also had spark. Fuel pump was locked up, i installed a new one, 47 or so lbs at rail, I did all the pressure checks and all needed replacement. Had leak down, all that stuff. I emptied and cleaned the tank, cleaned and blew out and flushed lines, changed fuel filter, fuel pump, injectors, installed an adjustable fuel pressure reg. I get no codes, or maybe are not looking at the right place.. NOW car starts perfectly, but runs for only 5-6 seconds, then suddnly shuts down like a brick.. Mostly it will restart only for 5-6 seconds, till the 4 min rule kicks in, I Can do this till the battery is dead. Which I wont. Holding the pedal to the floor gets no start at all. Im up north in NY, 60 or so degree days. I checked all the fusable links, all good. Im thinking tps or ecm? I have the FSM. Im getting better at navigaitng thru it. Any Ideas, or where to go from here, before I break out the meter.. I searched thru 100's of forum questions, similar. none exact. Thanks again for helping, You guys rock!

Check the resistance on each and every one of the eight injectors....sounds exactly like my buddy's 88. One injector's resistance wasn't within specs and that's the exact thing his did. New injectors fixed problem.

Thanks teebee, the resistanc is 14.5 accross the board. i tested the hot wire into the dist, hooked up while sstartup, run, stall no waver, to see if power was being lost after the 6 second start-up. Im thinking ecm or tps. Since I cant scan it thru the dash, will one of those $100 digital autozone scanners help? Thanks dude, Chuck
