Paging Pete K
I don't know if you remember my previous post about the leaking oil seal on the end of my trans. You suggested a triple oil seal which I put in. Well...I got my leak back, not as bad this time around. Still a real pita because of the amount of work I put in on this job.
Any suggestions on what's happening here? I checked the diameter of the new slip joint exactly the same as the old. The bushing was replaced. The leak seems to becoming out of were the slip joint rides on the rubber seal. I have the car up on jack stands and I have not even driven it. The first startup no leak even put the car in drive. The leak appeared when I changed the motor oil and ran the engine for a short time to check the oil level the next day.
Are the internal pressures too high in my trans? Plugged vent? I don't know what to check at this point. Any help would be appreciated.
Car is an 87 auto 75,000 miles
TIA
Craig
Sludge tends to collect in the bottom of the tailhousing extension.
Sometimes, this sludge partially blocks the drainback hole. This is the only other thing I can think of. Remove the tailhousing, and clean out the bottom of the case, where the tailhousing attaches. The drainback hole is on the bottom, and is approx 1/4 inch in diameter.
