Default New brake booster adjustment?

Hey fellas, I just installed a new booster on my 90 coupe. I have 2 issues. The car has little stopping power. (but more than it did before) When the brakes are first applied it feels like its going to stop but gets spongy as you press down harder and the car rolls to a stop, even if you mash the pedal. Also, the new booster rod that connects to the pedal is shorter, causing the brake lights to be on constantly. I know the pin that pushes the master cylinder and be adjusted in or out. I just dont know if it needs to go in a bit or out a bit. Also, how do you adjust the rod that connects to the pedal?

Thanks!

What brand and part number booster did you install?

Did you disconnect brake lines from the master during install?

If so, did you bleed ABS, and all wheels in proper order?

Generally, a hard pedal and no stopping means a booster problem, so sounds like your problem is related to something else (e.g. air in lines, bad master, etc).

If you installed an AC/Delco, here's a link to some part numbers to help you decide if the correct one was provided/installed -- on bottom of page 12: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...769573&page=12

........the booster actuator rod that comes from the brake pedal can be adjusted but, somehow the symptoms you describe seem to point to air in the brake system....ck for leaks first and i think it may be wise to re-bleed the system....

There are no leaks, ive been over every part of the system several times, and it looses no fluid. I will re-bleed the system again just to be sure. What about the booster rod length? how is that adjusted?

From what I remember, you want about 1/16" gap or slight more between the rod and the M/C. I made an L shaped part of metal to check mine, measure and mark the rod then adjust. You cannot measure the deepest part of the M/C though as the rod is wider and its contact point is not the deepest point of the M/C. I ended up with my new M/C at 1/16" clearance with the booster rod all the way screwed in to its shortest length. Odd I thought, but the system is working awesome that way. I wanted to see a little more clearance but that was it. The rod is easy to adjust just hold the ring and turn the rod.
