I put a 3.75 rear gear in my car and a 2800 stall converter. I am happy with both mods but now my car shifts really hard, the 1-2 shift under w.o.t. is really interesting. The questions are
1. Why does it do that now ? the trans is STOCK
2. Is this hard on the trans and or driveline ?
3. Should I not do this from every other traffic light ?
I think the 1-2 shift is pretty cool so I blip the throttle when it shifts and bark the tires all the time. I think it does it due to the gear change but I don't understand the why and I wonder if the hard shifts are really hard on the car as I don't have to do it every other light.

JD,
Installing a looser converter typically softens the shift. If the tv cable is correctly adjusted, drop the pan and remove the 2 inch diameter cover that has 3 ten mm bolts holding it on. If the spring inside is broken, it will make a harsh shift. If the spring has been broken for a while, it will have damaged the seperator plate. The seperator plate and spring are available in the aftermarket, and if my guess is correct, it will be more time than money. $50 will buy what you need to fix it.
Out to the garage I go... It's fun the way it is I just don't think it should be doing what it's doing. The fluid looks fine smells good and I have a deep Derale pan and a cooler and it shift hard 1-2 if you let off the gas it will shift alot softer but it loves to bark the tires. I'll post what I see later. I'm real good at tearing into that part of the car now
My experience confirms what Pete says John, the converter softened my shifts even after adding the TransGo shift kit so something doesn't sound right. Good luck.
No broken parts and the fluid looks good etc. I am going to go kick it's *** now and forget about it for now anyways The only thing I hate about buying a used car is you just don't know who did what to it over the years, you should've seen the 85 I had. Everytime I worked on that car I found something stupid
