The installation instructions for the MSD opti says to fabricate a timing indicator and marker. Although they give no more explanation about where they would suggest to mount said timing indicator.
Did any of you fab up a marker? Is this really a necessity?
Nope I didn't make one.... but I kinda want to now just so I can see whats going on. Sometimes my car will start to run like *** at WOT... I can mess with the timing screw and its smooth sailing.
Unfortunatly I have no idea what the hell I'm really doing without some type of indicator... just guessin'.
Its (the indicator) not neccesary though, as I don't have to mess with it (timing screw) very often... just would be nice to have one.

If you have a stock motor, don't mess with it. I put a MSD on my 92 4 months ago and didn't touch it. Also, the adjusting nut has thread locker on it. if you adjust it too often it can get loose.
There isn't a real easy way to get an accurate timing mark with the heads on anyway. You need to have the heads off, use a degree wheel and dial indicator or piston stop to get true TDC. Then you'd have to fab a pointer for the balancer.
If you haven't installed the MSD yet, make sure you check the screws inside, especially on the rotor. They've been known to come loose. A little thread lock won't hurt either.
The heads are off, and I've contemplated degreeing the cam as Comp Cams recommends. I know they say it is optional, but inquiring minds have a need to know. If it winds up being a PIA I won't do it, but I'd like to make the indicator for future use. My motor will not be stock after everything gets put together, although I'm hoping that I don't need to be messing around with the timing anyway. It only adjusts 4 degrees either way anyhow.
