Default 86 project in the works

I've just converted from automatic, to richmond 6 speed. that was a deal finding parts. Now Im looking to change fuel injection to aluminum intake and holley, along with cam and distributor. Two questions if I may,a good distributor that will work both with the FI and Holley, also what kind of hood clearance problems am I going to run in with a dual plain intake. Thanks dave

Not another retrofitter! There is no compter/non-computer distibutor, that I am aware of. It's one or the other.

As far as I'm aware of.. There are no Dual Function Distributors..It's either one or the other..You take the ecu out of the picture and you'll need an HEI type or even a point type and coil to control the advance curve ....If you go with a torker or performer manifold and some sort of low profile air cleaner hood clearance is not a problem not by much.... but not an issue

With a drop base air cleaner you can fit the majority of normal height intake manifolds. I'm running a Weiand Stealth, which is moderately tall, and with a 1 1/4" drop base and a 2.5 x 14 filter element I can still close my hood. I recall someone on here even managed to fit a Victor Jr. under a stock hood without cutting. Just need a drop-base air cleaner and you'll be fine.

You can get an MSD distributor from Summit or Jegs for around $100 and it will work with the carb. Just save the old computer-controlled dizzy if you want to switch back.

Use the stock pump and install a fuel pressure regulator that goes down to 6 pounds or lower.

Any old style HEI distributors for SBC will work just fine.

Both the EFI and a carburetor use an intake manifold. That means the same as you first asked.

Actually, an electronic distributor will work with a carb if you keep the ECM and the appropriate sensors. Normally, in a carb conversion the ECM and therefore, by necessity, the electronic distributor, are eliminated. There is no combination, electronic/mechanical, distributor.
