Default spark plug puck

I'm changing plugs on my LT4, and I notice one of the old plugs is missing the puck, and the gap is .60 rather than .50
also, the plug had a whitish coating on the ground, probably a result of the missing puck.
definately glad I pulled the plugs on a 30,000 mile car....

NGK plugs work great on the LTx motors. I used the NGK Iridium plug on my 92 and saw a 2MPG increase in fuel limeage and a much smoother idle.

The AC Delco platinum plugs were famous for losing the little puck. When I pulled the OEM plugs out, the car only had 38K miles and only 1 of the 8 plugs still had the puck.

, our 94's had 2 AC/Delco's missing their pucks (only 20k on them). Also went with NGK Iridium.

C4cruiser, I went with a gap on our NGK's @ 0.050-0.051 (car spec and per NGK tech support), what did you set yours at?

Can someone show a pic or a link of a plug w/ and w/o the puck. My ignorance, but I'm not clear on what a puck is.

someone may have a picture and may post, but here is my definition:

puck: a small soldered piece of platinum on the inside edge of the ground electrode, designed to be the place where the spark jumps too when arcing from the center electrode. imagine that the 'puck' is directly across from the center electrode, so when gapping the plug, the feeler gauge will go between the 'puck' and the center electrode.

Hence why when they fall off (bad soldering, overheat melting the puck, etc) the gap jumps from 0.050 to 0.065.

I heard bad things about Bosch plugs, so that's why I went with GM plugs. But I forsee those pucks falling off again.

Do the NGK's have the pucks?
Autolites?

I definitly agree about the Bosch plugs! Here is what I found after I pulled the plugs out of my newly purchased '87 Vette project. I had a blown head gasket on my Vette when I got it, so I finally got around to pulling the heads off it this last weekend, and found that one of the Bosch Platinum plugs was completely missing the center electrode (these are rather large electrodes, if your not familiar, see pic) which REALLY dinged up the cylinder (on a virtually brand new stock aluminum cylinder head, they only had a couple of thousand miles on them). Luckily, theres not a single mark in the chamber area, it's all in the quench area. Hopefully, a quick surfacing will take most of it out. What's the thickness of the deck on these (113 casting), and how far can you safely shave them? Anybody else ever had trouble with them. Not sure how to post pics on here, but they can be seen here. http://www.paradisecruisers.com/SMF/...p?topic=9699.0
