Nail in flat tire on right rear. Does the tire need to
come off of the rim for the best outcome when done
by a tire dealer?

I always remove tire and patch. I never plug. Vette tires are expensive. Spend the 10 bucks and get it patched.

Yep, should be patched from the inside.

Totally. In fact, only second rate repair shops will plug tires now-a-days.

I plugged one of my tires (rear), but now I don't explore any speed envelopes. If you can get the patch done for $10, do it. It cost more than $20 around here and not many want to mess with 9 1/2 or 11" wheels. There are different kinds of plugs, some are better than others. The problem is the tool that reams the hole can damage part of the belts which can weaken them and lead to a broken belt which causes a major vibration and worse, a blow out.

Think of a plug as a temporary fix while you are looking for a new tire.

I have had the tires patched for my Bike, and had no problem with it, and have explored multiple times speeds above 130 mph steady for a little time.
If done well you should have no problem.
There is a procedure that they use in which they put a patch a nd vulcanize it, that is great.

I have one with the pull through patch that is in my track tire set. It has been fine for track use for a few years and the tire is just about worn out now. The place did mention the reaming could damaged the steel banding in the tire. It was in the safe place to patch, not out on the sidewall. Keep in mind there are areas of the tire you do not want to patch. Also you can run a search in the road race section. Many people use the patch, some will not though.

No, you are better off with a plain plug if it's in the tread area. Patching is unnecessary.
