I’m going to be swapping out my gears in the next month or two. After I remove the rear end (i.e. differential housing) from the car, will I be able to drop the car back on it’s wheels so I can roll it out of the garage? Or is there a way to mount the rear suspension spring without the rear end in place.
Theres no way to roll the car once the rear end is out.I wouldnt even attempt to drop the car on its wheels if you leave the suspension on partly on the sides with the wheels still attched.
Thats the thing about IRS...everything hooks up and supports each other in some way.Once the rear end carrier is dropped out, everything hangs loose.
:)
Do NOT try to put your car down with the rear out. If you are taking your diff to a shop for the gear swap, they may have a used diff carrier you could temporarily re-install for pushing around, but that is about the only option. You could buy a new diff have the gears put in that, then R&R the differential and sell the old one (that is my plan).
