I've read on their website that if i buy their software i can build engines and change ecm parameters as if i were tuning an ecm.

Get the Probst book on Corvette Fuel Injection, and read it from cover to cover, then again. This is THE best technical manual I have ever read. The info in this book just helped me fix an intermittent surge problem, that happened to be on my Chrysler Minivan.
Affer reading this book, you will begin to make sense out of all of the chatter on the forums, such as Open Loop, Closed Loop, trim tables, etc. You will probably also think really hard before you start pulling your EGR, cat, or other item out of the system without understaning the effect.
This book also covers ignition systems, and is a start to understanding the interaction of the entire fuel/ignition/exhaust system. You will then need to dig deeply into other resources to find how to modify things. Maybe someone else could suggest the next book after this one.
