Default need help with severe idle missing problem

I have a 95 6M that has the check engine light on. I opened the hood and it is still there!!!! One a serious note, it really is running like crap and getting worse. It seems to be missing and does not want to idel, if it does idle its just above 500 RPM. It is very rough when I first start it, bucks and back fires for the first few minutes. It gets better above 2000 RPM. My first thought is the Optispark since it seems to be ignition. Where is the plug to check codes and how do I use the paper clip trick? I just had a new clutch, throw out bearing and a good used dual mass flywheel installed. Makes a noise like gravel coming from the area. I thought it may be related to the missing problem relaying the pickups on the flywheel. Any help is apprecited! Thanks

You are going to need a FSM for the code trouble shooting charts, at a minimum. The FSM will also tell you how to pull the codes, what they mean but most importantly, how to diagnose the cause and repair it with out guessing and throwing unnecessary parts (money) at the problem.

RACE ON!!!

One thing you can do when it gets dark out tonight is to pull the hood light fuse, start the engine and look at the plug wires and see if any of them are sparking somewhere along their length. Also check that the plug wire looms are in good condition and keeping the plug wires from touching metal which prevents sparking through the wire insulation to ground causing a miss.
