Just took my flywheel to the local auto machine shop. They told me that they could not re-surface it because it gives when they put the rock on it. I have read on the forum that some of you guys have had this done. What's the catch and how can it be done?
You really aren't supposed to resurface it. In theory if you do it will most likely fly apart at some later stage. To my suprise mine was in perfect condtion when I did my clutch.
Corvettes of Dallas had mine resurfaced when I was still using a shop to do work on my car. Whether they actually did it or not is another question, but several have done it. If it is "giving" then it may have a bad seal.
hmm...the little weights?
abviously it's used to balance the flywheel. But I would assume that the new wheel would come balanced. How do you know were to put the weights. I may need to get a new flywheel, so i'm interested to know all the details.
thanks
The dual mass flywheel is able to be resurfaced... but only by somoeone that knows what they're doing. The 1st clutch that I put in mine, the flywheel went to one shop, and then a day later to another. Now the second clutch is going in 20k miles later after hard driving for that many miles the flywheel torched again. I'm not sure if I'm going to get it cut again, or just scuff it good myself.
