Dead 95
my girl friend was driving my 95 and it just quit the other day on her. it would crank and crank but not fire. I just got back in town tonight, walked out and it fired right up, ideled and reved a few times for about 30 secs and I shut it off, restarted, tried to restart again and no start, just cranks away. should I hear the fuel pump for the first few secs when I turn the key on???? IDEAS????

so just walked out this morning, when I left it last night it would not start, have started it a bunch of times and it has been out there running for 15 minutes, but I don't feel like going and getting stranded
there is a fuel test port on the passenger side fuel rail under the plastic cover. the next time it will not start push the test port valve (like a tire valve stem) and see if you have any fuel come out, then you can determine if you have a fuel or ignition problem

thanks you... it has been out there running for a long time and restarted atleast 20 times... I wonder if i should just drive it untill it happens again... frustrating, can't fix a problem that is not there..
My 87 did this same thing right before the fuel pump died. Make sure it's priming the times you try to start and it won't catch. It was definitely an intermittent aggravation at first before it gave up the ghost. Definitely check pressure like previous poster said when it does this.

Have you checked for any codes?
It should be easy to do so if you don't know how, since it's a 95, you don't need anything more than a bent open paper clip.
do you have a Factory Service Manual (FSM)?
If so, turn to section 8D (Central Control Module). In the diagnosis section, it will describe how to invoke the diagnostic mode.
Otherwise, do s search and/or here's a simple description:
Locate the DLC connector (underneath steering wheel, to the right, small plastic electrical connector. Just jump pin 12 with pin 4 (numbered 1-8 on top row, left to right -- 9-16 on bottom row, left to right). Then turn on key and read codes displayed on dashboard. They are displayed by function/section (1.0, 4.0, etc). Starts/ends with a code of '12'. Once it finishes just turn key off and remove paper clip (to restart codes display, just turn key off for a moment and then back on).
Then let us know if there are any codes or do a search.
That behavior does sound like a fuel pump headed for the big junkyard in the sky. It's time, change it. Not that hard to do on these and even if it Isn't the cause of your problem Now it's cheap "insurance". I'd throw a new pump relay at the thing too, just on general principles.
If you Really want to know if the fuel side is the problem you'll have to hook a gage up to it and wait till it acts up again.
BTW - when a pump like this dies it can be intermittent for a bit. It can often also be "convinced" to start spinning again if it's jarred hard enough while voltage is applied to it. In other words: jumper the pump relay and bang the bottom of the gas tank with a soft hammer - that wil usually get that defective pump running "one more time". Assuming that the Pump is actually the problem, of course.

optispark - get a mechanic with proper tools to verif hi and low res pulses...quick check.
