Chassis electrical question
The center tail stop light on my 89 vert does not work, odd.. it gets voltage but not enough to light the lamp. The 4 other regular tail lamps light fine. So obviously an open connection. I made a "new" ground to see if that was it, no help. So problem is on the hot side.
I see from my ele diagram that the harness goes up to the front on the passenger side. do you think the break is probably there at a connector in the passenger compartment??
or when you see problems in electrical can it be anywhere??
PS this is a low mileage 1 owner car.

Unfortunately, the break could be anywhere.
Presume you checked voltage between center bulb connector's positive and bulb connector's ground as well as frame ground and they were both low and equal, relative to same voltage test of one of the regular tail lamps and it was 2+ volts lower.
Also presume you probed the back of the center bulb's connector to assure it was not corrosion within the connector itself.
Suggest then checking voltage at connector in passenger compartment same way and compare. If normal, then obviously problem is somewhere in between (which is most likely).

Sounds like you have some voltage drop in the 12v line to the stoplight. Check the voltage at the brake pedal switch (pedal depressed, by hand should do it). You might have a defective switch, but if not, then you need to check for low resistance connection of the wire from the stoplight switch to the stoplight. There is a 6 pin connector RH side of the cargo compartment near the rear of the wheelhouse (one pin is the high stoplight) and you could unplug it and spray contact cleaner and replug it back in and check your stoplight. Also, I have seen poor connection of the stoplamps to their socket pins (wiggle the bulbs while someone steps on the brake pedal).
