I am looking for two new rear tires. I live in Texas and the car will soon no longer be a daily driver as I am purchasing another truck within the next week. I was wondering about buying a pair of D/R's and just leaving them on there all of the time. How bad would this be? I don't plan on driving in the rain but was still wondering what the best Drag Radial is if I was ever caught in a downpour. Are the drag radials good for handling too or are they mainly for drag racing only (I used a set of my friends Nittos and liked them alot). Please let me know soon as I am buying them today. I have Firestone Firehawks on the front and BFG Comp T/A's on the back now. Also I wanted to go to P285/40/17's in the rear (or even the P315's...how much trouble is the 315's on the rims I have? Does it look tacky and how much does it stick out on the sides?) and leave the P275's up front, would that work? Thanks for your help!!!

I have a similar question: Anyone running 315's on 9.5" rims? Is it dangerous, like the tire blowing off the wheel? (That could ruin your day at 100+ mph :nonod: )

Nitto's will outlast the BFG drag radials on the street. The BFG's are very sticky tires, on the street you will pick up everything and in most cases fling it out the back.
When I had my drag radials on, nobody would ever ride behind me, I would pick up rocks and fling at them.
Other than that, nothing wrong with short trips, do not use them if a daily driver.
In the rain, just one word, they friggin' suck.
With ASR on in the rain, it will kick on constantly at 40 mph in 5th gear!
Sure you could ride with ASR off, but then you would be sliding a lot.
Mackey used to have 315's on his 9.5 rims, they looked funny but he didn't have a problem racing like that. He then switched to 275 because the 315 were no longer available at the time. He noticed no difference between the two.
He now has 325's on a 10.5 rim, those suckers are fat.

Going with a 285/40ZR17 will throw off your speedometer reading. 275/40ZR17s and 315/35ZR17s have the same tire diameter, but you will need 17x11" rims to run 315s.
