Service ASR
Are you still driving the car? Any other issues other than just the Service ASR and ASR Off lights?
I have read several threads about the Service ASR/Service ABS but all of those issues deal with other codes. All was working well till 2 days ago.
This past winter I had the car out on several days and went to areas with ice and both the ASR and the ABS worked fine.
Oh well, this is the first issue I have had in over 3 years with the car so I guess that its time to pay the pipper.

Ripped out the ASR, wrote off using cruise control again, and saved five LBS in weight. Ended up putting in a F body throttle cable. Picked up the .3 and 3mph the following week at the track.

Again, my Service light comes on before the car has moved, even if it's in neutral, it will come on as soon as you barely depress the throttle.
I am trying to get my hands on a breakout box with the adapator for the ASR to valadate the troubleshooting I have already done. The proper resistance and volts register for the ASR actuator box so I am leaning towards the EBCM, but prior to spending that type of money I want to make sure.

P.S. Everything in the FSM states I can still drive the car without any problems only thing I will not have is ASR.
I can drive mine w/ no problem, just as you say, no ASR.

This morning I checked all codes. Did not get the 71 but still have the 65. Started up and no Service ASR or ASR Off light. Cycled through the switch and ASR cycled from off to on without any problem.
Backed out of the driveway and as soon as I hit the gas the Service ASR and ASR Off light came on. Punched the gas and lots of wheel spin (and a little smoke from the tires, that was fun).
Decided to test ABS to make sure all is well. From 45 mph I got down hard on the brakes and the ABS kicked in without a problem. During the ABS event the ABS Active light came on. All is well with the ABS.
Got home and had my coffee and donut, no cracks about cops and donuts.
Went out to check a few more things. Unplugged the connector at the ASR motor unit just in front of the PCM. Turned the ignition to the run position and the Service ASR and ASR Off light stayed on. Plugged back in and turned the ignition to run and the Service ASR and ASR Off light worked normal by comming on for approx 2 - 3 seconds and than going out.
Turned car on and still no problem. Cycled ASR Off and On via switch all ok. Push on the gas and once it gets about 1,000 rpm's the Service ASR and ASR Off lights come on. I am about to go back out and pull codes again to see what I get. More to come.

Si its down to the 65.
After clearing once again I started and all was well till I pushed the gas at which time the 65 set again and Service ASR and ASR Off light came on.
I pulled the cover off the ASR motor and will check that and see what I come up with. More to come.

I believe I have narrowed it down to the ASR motor, but I am going to wait till I have access to the breakout box to confirm this as I do not want to just throw parts at it (that can get expensive very fast).
As soon as I get the breakout box and check the whole ASR system I willlet you know what I found out.

However, at the same time I got an intermittent SYS flashing in the fuel consumption area accompanied by a flashing SECURITY light.
I am looking forward to hearing the results of further trouble shooting by FAST COP.

The battery is 1.5-2yrs old though and since it came on after about a 250-270 driving leg, I am not sure that it would show low voltage at that time.
It started right up this morning after I checked some of the electrical connectors and topped up the brake fluid which really wasn't low.
Was able to run the revs up over 1500 a few times without any complaint or symptom.
As soon as we get a decent weather day again I'll take it out to see what happens.
After using the breakout box and the EBTCM adaptor I went throught the FSM diagnostics for a code 65 and all came up OK and pointed to the problem as being the EBTCM.
Went to work searching for a used part as I was not about the pay $800.00 for a new one. Found one.
Removed the old EBTCM (took only 10 minutes) today and installed the new one. Problem solved. The code 65 did not set and the Service ASR and ASR Off lights did not come on while driving.
I took the car to a dead end road to test out the system. With ASR Off it was smoke tires and donut time. With the ASR On the TCS worked as designed.
With every project I take on with my vettes I gain more confidence and am ready to take on the next one.

Since I wrote my post I have pulled the codes and have a 41, 32 and 72. I believe that it is the 72 that is giving me the "SERVICE ASR" light.
Thanks

Glad you got it fixed, I guess I'm next.
Do not buy a new EBTCM as they are $800 new. Use the auction site and you should find one for under $200.
