it's an 86, auto. seems like if the car sits for a day Is when this starts. I started it the other day and it sounded like i burned the starter. The car acted like it had no power. So I tried to take the battery off and accidnetly hit the frame. sparks flew and then I had power again. car started fine after that. The car sat again and it started fine, then the brake light came on. So I pushed the pedel in and the car cut off on power again. A few minuets wnet by and the power came on again. So far it has just been happening at home after it sits but I'm afraid it might happen at a red light once. It sort of sounds like a short somewhere. Any ideas?

It sounds like the battery has gone bad.
When it sits, do you have a charger on it? How old is the battery?
The battery shorting on the frame might have heated the battery up just enough to push past the sulfation on some of the cells. Chances are if you had the battery tested (not just a voltage test but a load test), it would fail.
It's a fairly new battery, maybe about 2 months old. At least when I put it in. Could it be that the altenator is not charging? I usaualy see about 13.8 to 14 volts when the cars starts.
