Leaking Trans Pan Woes
This is the third time I'm going to replace the trans pan gasket in my 86 Vette...It leaks ,,I even replaced the trans pan..Still leaks...Used cork, rubber and great stuff...To no avail.. I do have a TCI manual valve body but that should'nt effect anything..Tomorrow I'm going to use great stuff with a cork gasket sandwiched in between...Any one ran into this ??? Is my trans pressure too high with the MVB ??? It's around 200 according to TCI's instructions...Need help

Yep same damn problem as you. My tranny pan gasket started leaking last fall. I've changed it three times now. I used "the right stuff" the last time and it *seems* to be OK now. Just be very carefull around the small ports on the peremiter of the pan where the check ***** are. If you get any sealer in those ports it will fry the tranny.
I would change the pan gasket, fill the tranny, start it for a minuite to get the level right and over night I would have a nice puddle under the pan. It's a PITA and I would love to know what causes it.

What is great struff and right stuff? I have my pan off and was going to install the new cork gasket over the weekend.
If it's a sealer, I thought sealers were not to be used on the pan.

I don't use any on mine, but you can as long as it doesn't clog the small vent hole on the passenger side. On mine it is easy to see that and the gasket has a U shaped part to go around that vent hole. If the pan is not bent the first thing that comes to mind is a crack in the case. Check to see where it is leaking.

I missed the new pan part of your origional post. I usually torque the pan bolts 3x to 105 INCH pounds, and have alot of luck with plain old cork.

Looks like I'm joining the "trans pan leaking" club.
I'll try with new gasket as I still have one!
But my friend is telling me to toss out cork gasket and to use
only black RTV.
Do you think that that would be a good idea?

seal the pan takes time
when trying to seal a pan you need to let the rtv or right stuff or whatever your using set up b4 pouring in the tranny fluid.
make sure the tranny to pan surface is clean and free of any oils or solutions.
smear about 1/16 in. thick bead of RTV black (whick i use) around the entire tranny area and around any bolt holes.
carefully without scraping away RTV put pan in place and tighten pan bolts by hand.
let RTV set overnight
fill the next morning with fluid after RTV is rubbery. I have absolutly no tranny pan leaks or issues if i let the RTV set b4 filling with fluid.

no, not the next morning. i just hand tighten em when i put the pan in place. maybe you want to torque em to 10lbs or less but hand tight or very snug to where they dont turn anymore then let the RTV set is all it should take.

If my new cork gasket won't hold, I'll give it a try.
