My engine is pretty much done and new but the only thing I have yet to address is the distributor. I have a 87 roller cam and am wondering if my 85 distributor gear will be compatible? Also, does anyone have good sources for rebulding the distributor??? Any input welcomed! Happy Friday!
The 1985 and the 1987 take different distributor gears. If the roller cam is a stocker, I would get a replacement for a 1987. Otherwise, I would stick with the cam manufacturers recommendation, which could include the stock '85 gear.
There isn't much to rebuilding a distributor, especially for a computer car. Check for, and replace, worn bushings and set the end play, and you will have done more than any rebuilder. Most leave the end play sloppy, just like new.
