Default Cutting the Aitbox Lid??? 1985

Is it worth it to cut the air box lid? What kind of gains do you get from it? Any Horsepower? Better Airflow? What should I use to do this with, and how much should I cut off? Thanks, Zak.

Cut it around the outer edge, be sure to leave enough to hold the filter in place. Use a K+N filter and remove the screens from your MAF and you should feel a small difference.

Have Fun, Paul

You can use a cut off wheel if you have a grinder. Or go with a jig saw with a metal blade (will be a little rough, but use a file to smooth things out). You get better air flow at WOT. You will not notice a large difference. But you can hear a difference if you are outside the car.

I would pass on cutting the MAF Screen. This was a big debate about a year ago, most of us agreeing that there were no real noticable gains, and in some cases (like me) a performance decrease. The screen does not limit air but does effect how the air flows through the MAF. As for the lid....

What he said,..

I just cut along the louvres with a hacksaw. No need to get any larger than that. There is plenty gap between the lid and the filter media to accommodate. Using a K&N will help as well.

opt for this practice on a spare lid purchased from a junkyard.

because you'll soon find all that will happen is your air filter will get a ton dirtier, all the while you'll feel no improvement at all......so you'll be removing it in favor of your original stock lid.
