Unusual Brake Condition
Well, here's an unusual occurrence.
Last evening I was over at a friend's shop. I, for reasons known only to the All-Mighty, I left my engine idling for at least half an hour while we chit-chatted.
When I returned to the car to drive home, all the gauges read normal, and there was no dash error light. Everything looked absolutely as they should. Temps, pressure, alt.
So I pulled off and had to brake before entering traffic. This is when it happened. Brakes made the sound and feel EXACTLY like the ABS had activated. No ABS dash light though.
So I tried pulling forward a few more times and each time the same thing; that chatter, chatter, chatter and the accompanying sound that the ABS makes when it activates.
So now I'm thinking that I'll have my work cut out for me to try to figure out what was happening.
I continued to drive home and for the first couple of stops I still got the heavy chatter, but after driving a mile or so without having to brake, it stops. From then on, while enroute home, braking was normal - no chattering. It seems to come from the driver's side front brake.
I'm concluding that heat caused this, heat that was not vented because the car sat idling for so long.
Anyone ever have a similar experience?
Jake
Dont think the heat from idling is the cause here...
I drove the car a few miles today and everything was normal.
Guess I'll just do a Failure Mode Analysis.
