I just got a cut air filter lid and K&N filter for my '95 from a fellow CF member.
When I took the stock filter lid off, I noticed it fit tightly against the metal support bar that runs underneath the front bumper cover. This seemed to press the lower section of the lid against the air filter. The factory even had some velco-type material where the stock lid touched the support bar.
On the cut lid, the section that normally would press against the support bar is gone, so nothing is really pressing the lower portion of the lid up against the air filter. I can actually wiggle the lower portion of the air filter, whereas the top of the air filter is firmly pressed against the air filter. My suspicion is that air is leaking under the air filter along the bottom.
Has anyone else with a cut lid encountered this problem? I suppose I could create some sort of rubber wedge or something to press the bottom portion of the lid against the support bar, but I'd like to hear what you guys think.
I did the same mod to mine... I got a lid from a member on here and it worked fine. The lower half should have 4 teeth marks that secure the bottom half. Are you saying the lid you have doesnt have these? If you do have them is it the right filter for the car? If I was back home Id take some pics for ya but I wont be back for another 2 weeks or so. Good luck

Thanks for your post. I checked the lid and I didn't have the 4 teeth marks lined up and snapped into place. Now the lower section of the lid is firmly attached to the air intake housing.
