Default trans removal or not

planning to pull motor on my 91 this winter. some say pull motor and leave trans some say pull trans then motor. i am worried about the clutch fork as it is a pull type and how you get the motor to come out without damagine the fork, and how you get it back together with the pull type throw out bearing. thanks for any help

It sounds like you're talking about just removing the bellhousing bolts from the motor and lifting that.

This won't work because the fork is engaged on the throwout bearing which is stuck on the pressure plate. There is no way to undo it without removing the trans from the bellhousing.

Can you just remove the bellhousing bolts at the trans instead and pull the motor and bellhousing as one piece?

May make it hard to get the input shaft onto the throwout and pilot bearing on reassembly though.

i've pulled the engine from my 90 6speed 4 or 5 times and always left the transmission in the car. leave the bell housing attached to the engine.
