More than likely but it is such a pig to work around in the top of the tunnel and you have to remove the C beam and driveshaft anyway probably easier to remove the lot
You can not or it would be very difficult to reasemble the OD unit in the car. The side plate would have to come of the transmission. It is best to stand the transmission in a verticle position to reasemble.
Does anyone know if you can remove the o/d unit without removing the transmission??? 4 speed works fine but the clutches are burnt up on the O/D.
Are you sure the clutches are burned on the OD unit? Did you go through the entire troubleshooting process for diagnosing the OD problem?
What makes you believe that the clutches are burned? (there are specific symptoms, Does your reverse still work?)
Trying to uncouple the OD unit from the tranny while they are still under them car is way more difficult that pulling out both (i.e. replacing the clutch). Once they are both on the tranny jack you can move them back and start your OD uncoupling.
I went through the symptom chart in the FSM and it indicated the clutches were bad.....O/D works perfectly but the car slips when trying to back up. Fine on flat ground but will not back up even a slight hill.
I shouldn't say fine on flat ground cause it will slip if you give it any gas at all.......
I am sure you are correct, I just thought since the tranny is fine, not having to undo all the linkage would be that much less to do..... I have the rebuild kit coming from eklers so I'll see how it goes....
