I just got a fidanza flywheel put in my 6spd 94. i have 153,000 smiles on my car and at high rpm's i get a little vibration in the engine. It almost feels like its in my shifter and clutch, its wierd. But either way im wondering if it has anything to do with my new flywheel. By the way, I HATE MY FIDANZA FLYWHEEL. it shatters in reverse, getting out of first and sometimes second and downshifting into second. and the fact that its LOUD.
Perhaps you mean chatters instead of shatters? We are talking about a noise right?
At what RPM do you get the vibration? You feel it in the stick as a shacking, right? If so, can you watch it move or is it something that you can only feel?
From what you said, your problem is balance. Your dual mass flywheel was used to balance your engine. Switching to another flywheel without match balancing will produce an engine vibration. I hope you didn't lose your old DM flywheel. It will tell you how to balance out your vibration.
well i never put the flywheel in myself. My guy did it for me. Who knows what he did. I CHATTERS in reverse, out of first and sometimes second. And its loud to in everygear. IM scared because for it not to Chatter so bad, i have to give it alittle bit more gas and then let the clutch out. I dont want to glaze my clutch over trying to get it to not shake. I dont ride my clutch. IM just confused and dont know what to do. I dont have any of my origanal parts (clutch, flywheel) so I dont know about balancing
Might I suggest that you consider going back to the dual mass flywheel and OEM clutch, unless you have over 400 horsepower worth of mods. Once you have the dual mass in place, there is a procedure for adding weights in the outer ring of the flywheel to remove the vibration.
I would first get in touch with the installer. Surely your old flywheel is laying around somewhere & you can get your new flywheel balanced to match it. A decent installer should have known this & should be willing to eat the labor cost involved.
If that fails contact the company that you purchased it from "maybe" they could help.
If you decide to go back to the DM setup then send me a PM as I am interested in the Fidanza for a race car where loud doesn't matter.
well my old flywheel was soo bad the had to sand it. They sanded it enough to look good but too much that there was a big gap I gues. I heard it start up, wasn't pretty. So im in the situation to take it back and have him check the balancers? or get an original? A guy on here said he has one for me for a great price. Brand new too. Im confused on what to do and scared that my clutch is going to glaze over.
Sorry to hear about all of your problems that only seem to get worse. A new DM flywheel is expensive.
I think I have heard that they are close to $800 but I could be mistaken & that is probably GM list price if it is true.
Another option you might want to consider is that Carolina Clutch offers a light (app. 28lbs) steel flywheel. Lighter than the DM but supposedly not nearly as loud as the alum. version.
Nope. I am getting my 4.11's put in monday. BY A DIFF guy. Hes really good in our area. Im gunna have him drive it and let me know what he thinks. I dont want to take it to the guy that installed the flywheel because its an hour away. This new guy im taking it to is a VETTE man. He has a 64 tripple black and it has like 800 horse power. blower nos everything. and a racing boat, one of those things that goes like 150mph or something. Ok but anywase thanks for your help guys. This is really annoying trying to find people that know what they doing that can physicly help me
