I went and looked at a 90 to replace my recently destroyed 86. I really like the look of the newer interior, but I am curious about something.
The steering wheel in my 86 telescopes. The wheel in the 90 does not. I am assuming that with the addition of the airbag they had to remove that functionality. Are there any other things I'd be losing by switching to a 90?
The newer interior has no place for mounting speakers on the dash, if you care about that. On the
plus side, you might still be able to buy new replacement plastics for your interior. One other difference is in the engine -- '90 uses a MAP system instead of the MAF sensor.
The 90 won't handle mods as well, without a computer tune, as the 86 you had. I really like the interior of my 90 over my 84. Of course the 90 has more options. I like the instrument cluster a lot better.
Ouch that could be a problem. I have a brand new 300 HP motor in my 86, which was totalled this week. I was going to pop that 300HP iron head motor into the 90. Is this going to be a problem?
The motor is still a 350L98, but they put on SR heads, balanced everything, different cam, etc.
chip definatly has to be burned the maps hate VE changes and vac changes from the cam. good ole ed wright is a great canidate, the rest is pretty straight forward. speed density is wonderful and can make a tad more power than mass air if it's set up right and working perfect. chip burn is a must in your case
Hey you dont live that far from me. I live in fairfield township. I honestly like the dash in my 89 better then my dads 90. maybe because im short and the 90s dash is shouved up closer. speed density systems seem to run stronger .
If you live that close, you should consider joining the Cincinnati Corvette club. Check out the website at http://www.cincinnati-corvettes.com/ . I am still debating over the change to the 90. I really like most of the interior enhancements, but I also like all the colors in my 86 dash. It would be alot cheaper to get another 86, and since I intend to swap motors anyway, all I have to worry over is the condition of the paint and interior. The only reason I haven't looked at another 86 yet is that they all seem to be overpriced in the area right now.
