Default Tips for my 85 L98...

I was just wondering if there is anything on my 85 L98 that could be cleaned up...example:My dad and I removed his carbs on his motorcycle to take them apart and clean them (they were disgusting, Im suprised that thing even ran). Is there anything like this that you can do on an L98? If so, what and how? Thanks, Zak.

Mechanically, what would you suggest for my to remove and disassemble and clean? Is there anything on the C4 that really gums up after 20 years? Thanks, Zak.

My vote is for the throttle body. It can get gunked up easily.

What should I do to do this? Have you done it before?

Default throttle body.

2 ways. 1st, with the engine running at about 1500 rpm, spray throttle body cleaner in throat is it is running. This generally will improve idle if dirty. 2nd, Take TB off and disassemble and clean with TB cleaner. I have did both ways.

There is an IAC/TPS cleaning and resetting procedure to go through on my site, do that when you remove and clean the intake and TB with Top End cleaner.

Default TB removal

Not bad. Its on top. If your car is running fine I dont think I would bother. Be aware that the Throttle position sensor is located on it and if you take that off it needs to be reset with a volt meter. Idle air control is also located on it. If your not sure, I would just spray TB cleaner down it while running. Do you have a factory shop manual? This is a must to have. Good luck. The main thing is patience. Whenever I work on something im not familiar with I lays the pieces out in order to help me where everything goes!

Between the radiator and condenser. Remove the upper radiator shroud. There's usually a bunch of leaves packed in there restricting airflow.

What all do you have to remove to get them out? My condensor already happens to be removed...lol.

I took some cleaner and with a rag and toothbrush scrubbed it for a good 15 minutes with it still on the car. It made it idle a little smoother but my rag was pure black when I was done. It probably has never been done before. You can also run Sea-foam thru it. I poured some in my oil a few weeks ago but you must change your oil afterwards. It might help and it might not. Depends. Maybe someone else has more information on it because I surely don't and I do not want to point you in the wrong direction.

Hes a lucky kid...Funny story...My Dad and I bought an 80 Trans Am a few years ago (I was 12). We worked on that car, it was supposed to be my first, but they decided it wasnt going to be finished in time, so they sold it and bought me my 85 Vette (Im 16 now). I wish I had that car back. It was a bad car.
