I see that you won it Glenn.
Be aware that the block is a later model Mexican block. It uses slightly different oil galley plugs for the 3 in the front of the block. They are metric.

Kinda amazing that block went for $300 out there. (or down there, or under, or whatever). I couldn't give away the same exact block a few months ago.

"also r.e the oil gallery plugs, will they be a problem too find"
Gotta shop around to find them in Oz.

Be carefull with your dealings with "atracing" aka Sydney Speed Supplies.Don't have the best reputation in some places.

Suppliers of quality (I use the word loosely )
ProComp Chinese replica parts

And if the block has been chemically cleaned how come is still covered in paint?

No but I would ask question first before you pay shipping.
Check Just Parts mag for US parts importers in WA.
What you want is the more common Vortec truck block; roller cam and 4 bolt mains.
Used in 96-2000 pickups and Mercruiser inboards.

hey rod, what should a good second hand vortec block cost roughly any way ?
also if i were to buy a vortec block, does that mean when its time to buy new aftermarket heads i would need to buy them to suit vortec heads only ??
thanks

Vortec block is same as L98 except 4 bolt and more common in Oz.
Any SBC head will fit
The Vortec head fits the same as a normal SBC head just has different intake ports and intake bolt pattern (8 bolts not 12) requiring a Vortec only intake manifold.

I paid A$1000 for a complete dead Vortec and sold the heads for $600

Could try Chevpower : (08) 9459 7811 has used blocks
possibly Ivan at West Coast Chev (08) 9444 3577 can help
