Hello all,
The clutch won't engage unless I give it a little tap and then it works and cycles normally.
The old clutch did exactly the same thing, the new clutch didn't help.
I replaced the clutch relay, no difference.
It is shimmed properly.
R134 charge is normal.
New serpentine belt.
Anyone have any ideas as to what to do next? Any other relays I need to check?
Please let me know how you resolve this problem. I have a 94 LT1with the clutch engaging intermittenly. Now it will not engage at all. I have checked the wiring and the clutch in the engine compartment and it is good. I need to buy the 94 FSM now because you can use the ECM to diagnose this problem. My 93 FSM does me no good because the ECM changed. If I am successful I will let you know what I found.

hi,you do have to shim the clutch, when you took off the 10mm bolt in the middle to remove the clutch there are some tiny shims there .some times you dont even see them the fall out .but there is a min/max air gap you have to set it to not sure what it is .when i took mine off and put it back on it would not engadge i ended up finding 2 shims under the car i put them back in and it worked.
Air gap is .020 inch. Too wide and it'll engage with a clunk. Too narrow and you'll smell it when the compressor isn't engaged.
What's the ambient air temp?
Assuming the clutch coil was replaced (and it's something above 60 degrees with the engine at normal operating temp), you either have an intermittent at the clutch connector or the Low Pressure Switch. Try holding the Low Pressure Switch Connector onto the Switch - wriggle it around - or simply take a paperclip and jumper the harness. If the problem goes away, you need a new switch or a connector.
