Default Will an LT4 dash cluster work in my 91?

I know that on the LT1 and LT4 cars the dash cluster is interchangeable. I'm looking to make this swap on my 91, and I'd like to be sure that the LT4 cluster will work properly in my L98 based 1991.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it won't. But, if you have an extra, I'm sure it will fit in my LT1.

Yes, it will, but a few of the lights were switched. I think the 'brake' light and the 'low coolant' light (or something) are in different places. Other than that, it will work the same.

I hadn't considered the ZR1 cluster, good call! I would like to keep the orange, but have a 6000+ RPM stock tach. That's awesome, I wouldn't of thought of that, thanks Mick!

Yes the 90-91 LCD is different then the 92-96 LCD. The data stream coming from the CCM is different. The easy fix is taking the LCD out of the 90-91 cluster and installing it in the 92-96 cluster. That is what I did on my 91 dash conversion. Works great. You also need to cut and modify some of the Circuit board routing to work the correct Idiot lights.

so then it would be impossible to swap just the fuel meter/mph LCD from a 92-96 into a 90-91 car?

Figure I'd bump this once. Jeff's post above mine would indicate it's probably not possible, but does anyone know for sure?

For the 90-91 speedo LCD, you don't need a body control module, correct? Can I run my '87 speedo circuitry direct into the 90-91 speedo?

I've been toying on and off with the idea of the dash swap. I think I can re-use my entire existing dash harness, and just splice everything.

I was going to just do a analog cluster swap, but my dash has cracks everwhere, the dash top is junk, center console is garbage, etc. I think I'd rather steal the interior from a 90+ car, and spend a week resplicing.

I've made a couple of posts on this.
90-91 cluster LCD will work in the newer cluster and will read right.
Later clusters have a couple different idiot light locations, I repinned a 94 to work with the 90 and left a lamp out if I remember.

I'm so confused!!!

Gets better.

I was talking to the dealer today, and they said '89 and '90 use the same CCM (gave me part numbers too), '91 uses its own, and 92-94 use the same.

But the new dash started in '90.. And why wouldn't 90 and 91 be the same??

Hey Joe,
I think he made a boo boo. 90 and 91 are the same, I could be wrong, wouldn't be the 1st time.
90 is more dependent on the CCM than the 89. You can completely remove the 89 cluster and the CCM won't give any SYS errors, the 90 will, I've tried it when I was going to go analog gages on the 89 and unplugged the dash on the 90 and got a couple of errors on CCM, no VSS signal and another I don't remember.

I can look in the FSMs and see the pinning difference, the differences started in 94 with 2 different warning lamp locations, but the clusters will work, I've got a 96 cluster in the 90 stroker, and looking for 1 for the 90.

We got to sit a talk one evening on stuff, things I'm getting ready to do ... twin turbo for instance.
