i had one of the inexpensive Summit brand stamped steel 2-pc. covers on my 86. it was pretty tight, but cleared enough without needing any kind of spacers on both the stock, and Edelbrock waterpumps...
its a really nice feature to have, especially if you like to experiment with different cams, or cam timing alot...
i glued the gasket to the cover, and used a non hardening sealer like "Hylomar" on the block side of the gasket, and re-used it several times, witout leaks...
the cover would always pop off without tearing the gasket, and
i would just re-apply a thin coat of Hylomar to the gasket, and re-install the cover.
I have the Cloyes Aluminum cover with the built-in roller button and an Edelbrock water pump and they fit but I did have to slightly grind two of the cam cover bolts on the timing cover and change the back plate bolts on my water pump to button head allens but no other clearence issues beyond that.
Larry I think the 3-piece allow cam changes, I know my 2 piece Cloyes allowed timing changes but not cam changes. So be sure you get that clarification before buying.
I have the Comp Cams 2 piece, pricey but very convenient, and made right...fits perfect. I think they came out with a three piece after I got the two piece.

Yep, the Cloyes is nice but I'll wait for a Comp Cams 2-piece or a 3-piece to pop up on ebay
