Default Transmission advice.. 700R

I am going to have my transmission rebuilt here in Hawaii. I need advice on what I should have done. I will use a Vigilante torque converter, 2500rpm. My motor is LT-1 Hot Cam motor, so I need apretty good solid tranny.
Besides new clutches, what specifices should I ask for. I want it to shift hard, and the 3rd to 4th should be a hard shift also. What other internals should I ask for? Steve

Hey Steve,

I've got a Built 700R4 in my car, definitely ask for Mobil One synthetic ATF, its quite a bit more expensive, but it has much more consistency and your car will be more consistent in the 1/4. I've heard the shifts from chaning from just Dextron III to Synthetic get a lot harder, due to a difference in hydraulic pressures.

Everything I've ever read about B&M Shift kits is bad, and most things about Transgo kits is good. I have the Transgo kit, it really kicks when it shifts.

The guy that did my transmission was pretty hush hush about what he was doing, but he said it would be a really strong transmission when he was done. He put a bullet-proof kit in it, which is a good pump, along with 6 disc clutches(some people will say to run 9, but that just makes heat dissipation worse) and some other stuff. When I shift into drive, it almost spins the tires(Jet 2600 stall), the pressure is amazing.

There are a lot of great tranny setups out there, definitely run a high end oil like Red Line(Mucho dinero) or Mobil, and remember to change the fluid at 800 miles to get a long lasting transmission. With a high stall, a temperature guage is a must if you are going to race, and a cooler is a good idea all the time.

Also, while you're in there, you might consider having a new Governor installed, one that will bring the shift points up to the potential of that Hot Cam.

Good luck.

Thanks, I already use Mobil 1. Should I use it after initial rebuid, then flush it at 800 + - miles?
Is the Vette pump not a good one, whats a better one to get. So many questions. I just want it built better this time, # 3.
