i have a 86 vet with auto tranny , and have a friend that has a used 88 automatic transmission he wants to sell me , will this 88 tranny fit right into my 86 or does it require any modifications, thanks for the answers

If the '88 is a Corvette trans, you will never know the difference. If it is from another car series, the tail shaft may be marginally longer, but it ought to fit. And of course it won't have any of the Corvette's exclusive features. The '88 is at the good end of the 700R4 evolution chain.
