As you can see... I'm really a novice mechanic... there is much I don't understand. Like not having roller cams... but lifters and all.
But I'm almost there...
I have found Edelbrock performance RPM heads.
1.5 crane gold race roller rockers.
Hedmen 1 5/8 long tube headers ceramic coated
Dual 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust system with flow master 50 series ceramic coated mufflers
I have a 1986... is this all okay?
IF so, which mild cam should I use for that particular set-up? One where I don't have to change the intake or chip?
Anything else I should think of?
Thanks... just want to be sure of everything... and it takes me a long time to understand. I'm really more a driver than a mechanic.
Looking pretty good. Nice exhaust system, will pick up the power quite a bit. Did you contact Makin U Shiver about his Edelbrocks? Save you a ton. I agree with contacting a cam manufacturer, also use the search function on this website, there is tons of info on cam selections. DON'T OVERCAM IT!!! IMO, a ZZ4 cam is a little on the small side, a hotcam is on the big side for the stock TPI. I'm not sure if changing the cam is what you want to do. Will pick up power, will hurt fuel mileage some. If you end up just going with heads and some intake port work and don't change the cam, make SURE you go with 1.6 ratio rockers, not 1.5's. The heads, 1.6 rockers, headers and exhaust will give you a nice bump in power, more if you do some portwork on the intake pieces. The cam will be a big bump in power also, I just don't get the feeling, from your original posts, that is for you. Also, you will need self aligning rockers, narrow bodied ones if you have center hold down bolt valve covers (I'm not sure if you do or not on an '86, as mine is an '89 with different heads from the factory. The Edelbrocks that Makin U Shiver has are for perimeter bolt valvecovers) I would have a chip done by pcmforless. With these mods, especially if you don't change the cam, a dyno tune isn't necessary, but a mail order tune would do wonders.
