i have a 96 lt4 vette.do all lt4/96 vettes have the larger 13" brakes?
my car stops fine and i have no real issues other than i did a test panic stop from 80mph and then 60mph and i could not lock the brakes and the stopping power/performance was anemic at best.good thing there were no wayward possums.
it's been discussed a million times but what STREET pads have you had good stopping power without noise and premature rotor wear?

Yes, the J55 (13" front) were standard on all '96 models.

I'll let someone more experienced in brake pads answer the second part. But the '96 should be able to stop better than that.
With ABS youre unlikely gonna ever lock the brakes. That being said,I would do a full inspection on your pads thickness and rotors. With abs the car should still stop real good, and may pulsate the brake pedal if the abs is kicking in.If your slamming the brakes and nada happens, and takes long to stop doing it with a longer slow down,do an inspection of the brake components.
In answering the pad question, I use Hawk HPS with great success. Driving over 50 miles a day, they have good stopping power, no noise and little dust.
I've tried a number of the popular pads and am most happy with the Carbotech XP8s that I have on now. Driving the first mile I can tell they are a track pad, after that they are fine for the street. I really like that they are non-metallic so I don't have to clean metal particles off everything and they are low dust which is also non-corrosive. The difference between the stock C5 pad (came with the calipers) and the XP8 is dramatic, with the XP8 stopping much faster. My setup will engage the ABS and skid the tires.
I have found a very nice dual use track/street pad with these. Some report brake shudder, so when I need new pads I was thinking of trying the Cobalt line. That company makes similar non-metallic pads.
So check out Carbotech or Cobalt for pads without all the metal debris.
