Application please.

Straight line or will you be on a course?

T-400 will be bullet proof but depending on what you are doing you may need OD, and cooler, and shift light, and half shafts, and tailshaft housing, drive shaft, etc.

Building a 700r4 to hold up to 425 hp is doable. It is possible for less than $3,000 including a new quality converter.

back in 1991 i watched in awe a green L98 turned into a 406 monster by lingenfelter (one of a handfull he ever produced) it ran consistent 11.50's @ 125 with a rossler built 700. winston ran 2+ years with the same tranny with no issues. just prior to his divorce (and sale of car) he installed a nitrous system...he ran 10.60 @ 135 at capital race way with no problems...as far as i know the only problem winston experienced was a dropped valve - lingenfelter covered shipping the car back from md to decator for free and rebuilt the engine at no charge...and he also sheared a half shaft...the rossler built tranny lived behind over 700 hp (nitrous) with no issues. not to mention i have also seen many other 383 built by lingenfelter and rossler (tranny) hold up for 2+ years over 20k of hard miles with no issues.

I run 9.30's with my 700R4 for the last year at over 140mph.
Just build it right
The hp is just over about 950 hp on juice and dynoed 702 at the flywheel, heavier than stock.

I would get a hold of Pro built. Dana knows what he is doing when it comes to a 700R4.

But how good were they to start?
Spend the $$$ up front on proven quality upgrades and should have no problems; that said some people can break anything.

With stock TPI L98 wasting your time pulling more than 4500rpm.
Will go slower

Have ported plenum/ big tubes/ siamized base , cam / LT's and still does best times shifting at 4500.

The first one was around 2K but after that it was a matter trying to find better parts to replace the already good parts. I will say I am Pretty Hard on my car. Very little drag strip time but alot of fun on the street.
