I can't afford the fsm for my '96 LT4. I'm hoping someone here would be kind enough to help me with some info. I'm told(though I find it hard to believe) I have a bad wirring harness or a bad pcm causing many, many opti replacements. In an attempt to save time and energy, not to meantion money, I'm looking for the bad wire myself. Now the opti harness is new so it's the pcm wire to opti harness I need to check. Anyone know which pin is opti? Is there a possible connection between the opti wires/pin and the MAF, Dealer says they are close and might be touching each other but I don't believe it. I assume the fsm says which pins are used for which systems. So if there is good connectivity to the pcm for all pins, I'm told the pcm is bad. I never did any electrical work before so any help or tips would be appreciated. I'd hate to have to sell it but that's next if I can't solve this issue. Thanks.
Sorry that I can't help you with your wiring, but I did see a FSM on ebay going for 29.99 + $10 shipping. That's a good deal. It includes both books. Check out item # 140178848161.
dude... I will be blunt - you cannot NOT afford to get the FSM.
If you can afford constant opti replacements, you can afford $100.00 for the set - that's nearly retail ($120.00).
I have issue with the wiring arguement... IF there is a problem, I would check the harness from where the opti connects into the main trunk back to the PCM.
In my 96 prelim service manual ($1.25 on ebay) I show the black connector (c2) pins 2,3,14, and 20 going to distributer also most likely cause(my experience) is at distibuter test connector (4 pin right side of the intake) , but i agree symptoms would be more helpful, ignition coils and modules have failed for years and are much cheaper than a distributer, unless your getting the distributer wet or the vent is damaged they usually last well past 60k.

for the 2nd gen opti, you can double that estimated mileage. It's only the first gen that dies that quickly.
