C-4 driveline Beam plates
These are on the Zf doctors website.Has anyone made thier own??
It doesn't look that tough to do.All that is needed is the centerline diminsion
of the boltholes. You can get that just by measuring edge to edge with
a set of calipers or ID micrometer, which I have!! They seem aweful expensive
at $145!!  Once I go back to work(vacation) I think it's time to find
some stainless steel and start fabricating. Anybody else done this???
Curious,
matt

I made a pair JUST to hold the *@^#$_@(!*!#S&* nuts in place. I used 3/4" phenolic for mine. They don't do diddly for strengthening the beam but they have saved my sanity several times already. I can send you the dims if you want them.

Happy Holidays !!!!!!!
Here ya go. All measurements are metric. I cut the slots a shade small & filed them until the nuts barely fit.

Brian,

Same bolts and no washers. The plates replace the original washers.
> BTW I want to put nylocks ( or equivalents ) on them.
The plates have brand new oem tripple crush locknuts in them.
The older style nuts are double crush locknuts and do slip after many
thread cycles.
> I torqued them down to spec and the ones on the diff loosed up
If you want to be safe, pick up a new set of bolts from GM or Pontiac
Parts Dealer.
P/N 11507025 (2 rear bolts), P/N 11508593 (2 front bolts).
With new bolts and the plates with nuts, torqued to normal specs
(37 lbft front, 59 lbft rear), that beam will feel as solid as if you
welded the joints. Not to loosen until you want them to.
While the beam is removed, check all contact surfaces
to ensure that no surface irregularities are present. Use a file
to deck/level any irregularites due to aluminum material migration.
If the plates come on and off alot, and you become concerned about
the nuts loosing their lockability, send the top plates back to me
and I'll send you new ones.

Re: C-4 driveline Beam plates (BrianCunningham)
I bought mine from the ZfDocs.I Love the superb quality of the construction and the ease of installation/removal benefits it gives.Has the best welds Ive ever seen.
Since I cant weld, and it would have costed me about the same price to have them made elsewhere, and plus I spent alot more money on stupid things before, like beer, etc,
:)
I paid the price they asked. They fit perfectly.I dont know if they tied the beam down better..dont have any racing, data to measure or back it up,but figured it cant hurt anything. But I will say this..a small rear clunk I used to get when slowing down or speeding up is gone. And yes when I took the beam bolts off to install this kit, they were on there tight.
Let us know how your home made kit works out and if it helps tie the beam in better.

I bought them and would not buy them again. Nothing aginst Bill but definitely not worth what I paid. I do have to say my car tracks fairly straight when the tires come loose.

Re: C-4 driveline Beam plates (89vette)
I just ordered a set, $145 is what I paid for a freaking G-Tech! Can't hurt and if they help reassemble things, it's worth it (IMHO).

Re: C-4 driveline Beam plates (6spd.89)
Who can attest to them doing what they are suppose to do? I am expecting that they will eliminate the car kicking to the right shifting hard as advertised.
Anyone have any before and after results?

Re: C-4 driveline Beam plates (6spd.89)
I just put the beam plates on my C4 along with a Spec Stage III clutch. That, along with replacing the majority of the rear suspension bushings has really put the rear end of the car in touch with the ground. Ever feel the shifter move up and down while goosing the gas even after you've tightened bolts through the beam? Problem solved with the beam plates (and new bushings) It's a fantastic idea that is "patent" pending. Pull off your dims off of this post before you get sued!

Re: C-4 driveline Beam plates (6spd.89)
I was goin to make these,But needed to get the car backtogether
before winter hits us in IND. When reassembling the beam and bolts
i had no problem at all puttind the nuts back on and torqueing them down.
I had a wrench up top placed up thru the drivers side of the tranny. The car
was only about a foot off the ground so i used my chest to study the
torque wrench until things started to get tight. I do still want to make these
plates just won't be this year. :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy

Re: C-4 driveline Beam plates (Blown Vette)
I have 15 patents, so I'm a jail house lawyer for patents. I uderstand that as long as the patent infringer doesn't sell the plates and uses them only for himself, then theres no damages to collect, so there's no point in suing. If you make plates for several of your buddies and give them away, I don't know what the case law is, but it sounds like it could be "actionable" as the scumbags like to say.

Re: C-4 driveline Beam plates (Rolla Dunkin)
I got mine from Bill, well worth the money....
I paid Bill for his excellent design, the actual product and a really nice 30 minute talk about Vette things. Heck the phone call was worth 20 bucks alone ;)
Eric
Edit: BTW, I thought the Hurst shifter was a good deal too, maybe I'm just a sucker after all, I was born in Iowa :)

Re: C-4 driveline Beam plates (silver & red CE)
If you don't have a problem (the problem they are supposed to fix) then they are not a good deal. My car had none of the symptoms described which the plates are supposed to fix. Bill really wanted me to try them anyway--I guess he thought I just couldn't tell. I cannot tell a difference with versus without.
I'm not knocking the product, as I've heard lots of people use them to fix the problems they are supposed to remedy with much success. But if you don't have a problem, they will only make your wallet lighter.
