Pilot bearing is a bushing!
1991 L98, 6spd.
I just removed the pilot bearing, and I see that it is not a bearing at all.
It is gold in color, and appears to be brass. I'm wondering if I should have not taken it out. The replacement is an actual bearing.
Thoughts??

Just use a brass bushing, an oil impregnated one if you can. Dont care for the bearing type.

it's 'sintered bronze, oil impregnated',trademark name ''oil-lite'', been used for many decades, good for 100k+ miles...seen several 'roller bearing' types come out in small chunks.

Yeah, I prefer the bushings over the bearings as well. Once you try to remove a bearing, you will too. PITA!

Plus a bronze bushing can't lock-up on you like the bearing can.

Supposedly GM switched to the bearing sometime around 1989 in the vette, then switched back to the bushing in 94. Is your clutch original?
