It depends.
If the gears whine on accelleration, or decelleration, something is likely wrong.
If they make a slight whine when cruising with your foot lightly on the gas, it is somewhat typical for a performance gearset. Especially richmonds.
No jawsgear.com. i think they are motive gears. but it whines when my foots off the gas and a little when im hitting the gas specially in 6th.. I got charged 900 for install but he fixed a wheel bearing and my ujoints and a battery..I know thats horrible so dont rip on me. but he wants my dad to put some braces on his son so I will make some money back
Mine make a slight whine at 50-65ish mph with very light throttle. It will sometimes get better with some miles. If it is really loud, I'd take it back.
next question is if its bad for the gears. Cause it took him 2 weeks to complete, I kinda wanna drive my car for a while before I take it to him for another 2 weeks....?
If the rear gear set up is wrong, it is already too late. The damage is likely done. If putting miles on the car improves the noise, you may be fine. If it gets worse with miles, then the gearset is ruined.
If set wrong, and then reset at a different pinion depth, they rarely survive the 2md break in period.
These statements are not fact, but my opinion based on previous experience.
My 3.54 D36 Richmond gears whined like a lonely puppy from the day they were installed, and the whining only got louder. OTOH, they lasted 3 years and hundreds of passes down the track - before they self-destructed.
well is the whinning going to RUIN my gears? I mean its bearable but i dont want to be spending alot on gears again reall short. I have 50,000 more miles till I get another car. My dad said I have to hit 200k then I get another one. So if i last that long ill be good.
