USB ALDL connection problem

Default USB ALDL connection problem

165 ECM
Problem. can't get any dataloging program to connect to ECM.
Either with memcal in place or Ostrich.Two different ECM's.

Facts
Have new USB ALDL cable (2 )
Have USB serial drivers installed and can emmulate to Ostrich (USB ) ;
no problems.
ECM has data stream.Diacom works perfect but can only log 20 sec.
Check with Hyperterminal shows ECM connection and can get partial data using Winaldl (4800 ).
Have tried all the cable jumper combos;10K , A-B , none.
ScannerPro , TunerPro RT , Datamaster demo all show ALDL not present.

Any ideas?
Recommendations for laptop comms settings?

Go into the drivers and set the COM port of the USB Converter (under Ports in the Device Manager of the Windows Control Panel). Set it to COM3 or COM4 (which ever out on the comp. you are planning on using). Override any warnings against 'port in use' or any of that nonsense. While in the port settings, set the latency to '1' (default=16), this speeds it up dramatically. If using tuner pro or tts, make sure the comm. port assignment in the program is the same as properties.

As to recording and getting short times, you can try bumping up all properties of power savers, and hard drive shut down etc., to a bigger value of time, and turn off all screen savers etc. (if you haven't done so already), which will give you a longer available record time.

Thanks for your reply.
Have fiddled with the port settings to no avail.
Have reloaded USB drivers.
Strange thing is the Ostrich runs off the USB using the same USB - serial drivers with no problems.
Have ordered serial ALDL cable , just trying to establish where my
" problem " is.
I know the USB works , I know I have data output from ECM (tried three different 165 ECM's ; with memcal or the Ostrich attached and 2 new ALDL cables.

you're welcome...when I first started using everything (apu-1, lm-1, tuner pro, tts, etc.) I remember Craig did not have the auto connect usb and it was a little more work to get it all up and flying. It is possible to have cable issues, w/tts I have to use the "resistor box" cable and w/Tuner pro as emmulater etc. I use just the straight aldl/usb cable.
The other thoughts I had was if you had downloaded the auto connect usb version, it does seem to help some of those problems:

other options/thoughts (if you haven't done so already):
For TTS also look at "options" in serial data acquisition, and enable "ecm handshake".

For Tuner Pro, double check preferences/interface (type, apu-1 etc.) /comm port (settings). Interface here usually needs to be changed when going from emulating to record. On apu-1 switch positions are important and also needs to be changed (not sure if this is applicable on the ostrich).
