Think I need some help here,,,,

The MT2500 is a serious diagnostic tool. I use it for almost all diagnostic tests, and prefer it over my Tech 1A. MT 2500's are all over Ebay but you want to pay close attention to what cartridge you get with the unit, if any.
I found a used unit off a Snap On truck.
Also, make sure you get the OBD2 connector as both your cars require that connector.

As you have probably already found out, the price spread for the diagnostic scanners vary from about $100 on up to ????
You are fortunate in that both cars are OBDII (On Board Diagnostics II) compliant which means that one tool will work for both cars.
It is difficult to tell by your post how much you are into doing your own work. In my humble opine, If you do all of your own work then I would suggest a "High end" unit which can be very expensive. If you are only looking for diagnostics and you farm most or all of your work out, or if you are just learning about computer contolled engine systems, then I would stick with a less expensive OBDII compliant unit. They are available from your local parts store (Auto-Zone, Kragen/Checkers, etc.) for around $100. These units do a credible job of diagnostics and they point you in the right direction. As your knowledge increases, you can then decide if a more expensive unit is better for you. I have an inexpensive one and it has worked well for me on my OBDII vehicles. I have also used it to troubleshoot friends' cars.
Hope this helps.
Norm.
